Gold Deathlayers

Gold Deathlayers are a stunningly beautiful and hardy landrace breed which originated in Germany over 400 years ago. The name “Deathlayer” is a translation from the German word “Totleger”, meaning “Death Layer”.

There are two stories that explain the history of the name “Deathlayer”. The first is that they’re a “day layer” and over time this translation evolved into “death layer”. The other is that the name derives from a chicken that will “lay an egg per day until they die”. In either case, they both accurately describe a proficient egg layer that will provide an abundance of medium-sized white eggs. Deathlayers can be a “flighty” breed but when raised with other calmer breeds, they do tend to take on the nature of the flock they are raised in.

Silver Laced Orpingtons

Silver Laced Orpingtons are a gorgeous, cold-hardy British breed known for their docile and sociable nature. They are excellent free-rangers but also do well confined. They lay 200-280 medium to large brown eggs per year.

Due to their sociable and calm nature, Orpingtons are an excellent breed for beginning poultry enthusiasts and make wonderful pets for families with children who love to participate in caring for animals. The hens are known to go broody and make excellent mothers, while the roosters tend to be gentle, non-aggressive and doting partners.
